Modern Maui Jungle Wedding Inspiration at Haiku Mill / Unconventional Maui Wedding Photographer
This shoot was featured on Bridal Musings
I am always seeking out magical places that transport me to another world. Haiku Mill is a once-abandoned historic sugar mill on Maui that does just that. The old bones of this 19th century mill were lovingly repurposed to create a splendorous, tropical wedding destination. Vines and ferns spring out of the walls of the roofless building. Being here feels like you’ve discovered an incredibly rare and special treasure tucked away in a jungle.
Perhaps what I love most about Haiku Mill is that the space has a rich sense of history and meaning. Each worn stone and each window swallowed in vines tells a story. The tropical plant life seemingly reclaims the stone building back to the earth. While exploring the grounds, I could wonder all day long about what these walls have seen. A rich space like that seems like the perfect environment to create a story of one’s one.
This elopement inspiration shoot is all about mixing old and new for a fresh, free spirited spin on classic glamour and tradition. We contrasted bold tropical colors and a sleek, mid-century modern vibe with an earthy bohemian aesthetic. Kimiko of K.H. & Co designed a gorgeous luxe picnic set-up complete with a retro bar cart. She created a luxe yet relaxed environment by bringing together brass and marble accents, eclectic patterns and lush botanics. Our bride’s sleek finger waves were inspired by old hollywood glamour. She wears the “Lizzy” gown by Dreamers and Lovers.
As you cultivate a beautiful wedding day story of your own, choose only the traditions that are meaningful to you and let the rest of it be a blank canvas for your unique, wild creativity.
